Inland ride — Khao Mai Kaew Cave and Khlong Chak Waterfall

The two inland destinations that give a scooter day a purpose beyond beaches. Khao Mai Kaew is a proper cave — around 30 minutes of uphill jungle trek, then about an hour underground with ladders, narrow passages and some crawling, with a local guide and headlamp for 300 THB, cash only. Khlong Chak is a walk of roughly 2 km each way from a signed parking area, past a bat cave, to a waterfall.

Road notes

The main-road approach is straightforward; the access lanes are narrower, sometimes unsealed and rutted, and get muddy after rain. Ride them slowly or park and walk the last stretch. Wear shoes you can climb in, not flip-flops — the cave involves ladders and crawling, and the waterfall trail is rooty. Strongly seasonal: Khlong Chak is more of a trickle than a waterfall outside the rainy season, so between roughly February and April do not ride out expecting a cascade. Reports of an entrance fee and a compulsory guide at the waterfall conflict badly on the amount, so ask locally before you go rather than trusting a figure online.
